Could you dye in a pressure cooker ??
  • Was thinking that in a pressure cooker you can get up to those high temps into 200 I think but would obviously do for small pieces of fabric or whatever you were dyeing. I had read about it being done in a print process. I am asking in terms of dyeing bits of fabric not for print purposes. Though there's an inch or two of water ...would the steam penetrate fabric...don't know anyone tried it??? Just thinking it might be a way of doing it in a safer manner as the water is contained and steam comes out I think only when you open it you could take it outside when its done to release any fumes etc
  • Dear Thing,

I have heard of folks using a pressure cooker for dyeing and steaming fabrics, but don't have any personal experience with it. Hopefully someone will read your post that has experience and will respond.

  • Well I guess I'll just have to experiment, ps though wouldn't mind knowing does it cause any problems to stove top dye in stainless steel pot ? Cheers
  • Stainless steel and enamel coated pots are the best to use.
