Dye for mixed fabrics
  • Hi,

I have a jumper that I wanted to dye that's 40% nylon, 35% mohair and 25% acrylic. I wanted to dye it navy blue; is there a suitable dye in the range for this?

  • Hi Bob,

This is a tough combo! With the high mohair content you are going to want to use great care with the heat necessary to dye the other two components.
For the nylon and mohair I would recommend Acid Dye: http://jacquardproducts.com/acid-dye.html - to dye the acrylic content you will need to use Basic Dye: http://store.jacquardproducts.com/category_colors/dyes_basic-dye/ , however, because we sell the Basic Dye only as a bulk item (one pound minimum) you might need to do some research to find a company that might sell it in smaller amounts.
You could dye with the Acid Dye first and may find that you are able to achieve the depth of color you are after without having to take the next step of dyeing the acrylic content.

hope this helps and if you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.
  • Thanks Annette. That's really helpful.
