Textile color on wool tops
  • Hi, I haven't used this product previously but have a few bottles of Jacquard textile color, wondering am I able to use this to dye merino wool tops/roving? Or is it better to felt the wool first and then colour with the product.
  • Hi Pamela,

    Thanks for writing in.
I would discourage you from using the Textile Colors as a 'dye' on tops/roving. Because the Textile Colors are a paint, with waterbased acrylic binders, you would end up coating the shafts and limiting what you could do with the wool. We have a wonderful range of colors in our Acid Dye line (http://store.jacquardproducts.com/category_colors/paints_super-fast-acid-dye-for-wool/) and a line of Super Fast Acid Dyes for Wool (http://store.jacquardproducts.com/category_colors/paints_super-fast-acid-dye-for-wool/) that are excellent options for dyeing wool roving/tops.

If you want to use the Textile as a surface design tool on felted wool that will work beautifully. The colors are simi-opaque, very soft handed, wash fast with heat setting and come in a wide range of colors (in fact we're just introducing 8 new earth-tone colors!).

...any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
