Looking to dye "polyester rope"
  • I am starting to make "horse tack", out of Polyester rope. Such as halters, bridles, reins, etc. The rope doesn't come in alot of colors so I'd like to "dye" my own white rope. This will also need to get washed from time to time as it will get dirty. Does anybody know of a dye I can use for this, that won't wash out?

    Thank you! Joyce
  • Hi 'Luv',
Thanks for asking us! You're best option for dyeing your rope will be the iDye Poly. You'll want to follow the directions for stove top dyeing to achieve the best results.
    Have fun!
  • Thank you Annette! Will this dye wash out with soap and water, after it's all dry?

    Thanks so much~
  • The dye will fix to the polyester during the dyeing process. The important part will be bringing to and maintaining the full rolling boil per the instructions. (http://jacquardproducts.com/assets/jacquard-site/product-pages/dyes/idye/iDye Poly Instructions.pdf)
After dyeing you'll want to rinse well to ensure that all the excess dye is removed from the rope.
And, we'd love to see a pic of your horse all 'dressed up' in her new duds!
