Dyeing cotton/viscose scarf - it says only wash COLD but dye needs HOT water!
  • Will the fabric be ruined by being dyed in very hot water? It's beautiful soft fabric and I don't want to ruin it. Thanks!
  • Hi Barb,

I can't really speak to that specific fabric's ability to hold up to hot water (though in general I wouldn't worry too much about a cotton/viscose piece unless shrinkage mattered), but there are alternatives to using a hot water dye.
My best recommendation is Procion MX dye. http://jacquardproducts.com/procion-mx.html This is a cold water, fiber reactive dye that can be used with cold water, though you'll note that the directions recommend using warm water (you will get better results more easily).
If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask.
  • Thank you.
