Waxmelter Batik Pen Instructions

The Waxmelter Batik Pen is an electrically heated hand held tool designed to produce fine lines of melted wax warm enough to penetrate fabric for the process of batik.

Instructions:

Melt small pieces of wax 1/4" x 1/4" - one at a time.

Keep the heated tool on a piece of aluminum foil. The Batik Pen takes only five minutes to heat up. Avoid touching the metal parts of the tool - they are hot! The screen guard protects the hottest part of the tool.

The tool can be used with a pin valve which prevents wax drips - pin valve is included in the kit. The valve works by gravity and seals the tip when the tool is held up in the air.

However, the tool can be used without the valve. The melted wax will not drip when the tool is held at an angle. Place the tip carefully until the tip touches the work surface - then draw. Holding the tool straight UP produces thin lines - tilting the tool allows the wax to flow more and produces thicker lines. This variation allows lines to go from thin to thick.

Although this tool is designed for Batik it can melt pure paraffin, bee's wax, batik wax and wax crayon. It cannot melt pastels, cray pas, pressed crayons, plastic crayons, or oil pastels.

The very fine hole in the tip of the Batik Pen can become clogged if the wax contains bits of dirt. Use clean wax only. Use cotton applicators to clean the tip. Never use a sharp point - the fine tip hole can become distorted.

Cleaning Up: Always unplug the tool before cleaning. Clean the tool while it is still hot. Wipe the outside with a wad of paper towel or tissue. Clean the inside with cotton applicators. Run a piece of clear paraffin through to clean out colored wax.

Never try to unscrew the clamp that holds the heater onto the tip. This could cause a spot weld to break - send the tool back to the factory for adjustments or repairs.

Safety Precautions

To protect against electrical hazards, do not immerse cord, plug or tool in water or other liquids Do not use tool outside or on damp surfaces.

Keep cord and plug away form anything that could damage them. Avoid letting cord dangle over the edge of the work surface.

Tape down metal tool rest (included in kit) and hook tool around the rest to prevent it from being jerked off the work table. Protect the cord and plug from damage by heat or impact

If the tool becomes damaged, send it back to the factory for repair.
