Portrait of Julie Cox Hamm

[Gallery Images]

Julie has been an artist all her life, drawing and painting fashion figures, portraits and nature. Since 1988 she has been painting on silk with silk dyes.

Julie's works have been featured in a one-woman show in 2004, in The Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, in 2005, and galleries in Dallas and Wichita.

Julie is a member and on the board of directors of SPIN (Silk Painters International). She is a member of Surface Design Association and a founding member of NETFAA, NorthEast Texas Fine Art Alliance.

Since February, 2008, Julie has collaborated with fashion designer Abi Ferrin to paint fabrics for Abi’s Spring 2009 Collection, which was featured at Fashion Week Spring 2009 in New York City, and can be seen at www.abiferrin.com.

Abi’s high-end fashions are sold nationwide. All of the original fabric was hand-painted on 16mm crepe de chine with Jacquard Red Label dyes. Julie uses the primary colors to mix her own varieties of colors.

"Painting over 33 yards of fabric made it necessary to keep the colors consistent. Jacquard Red Label dyes made it possible to mix large quantities of color to paint on 3 different designs in 2.5 yard pieces."

Julie's life has been an artistic adventure. She has been inspired by observing life and seeing endless possibilities for expression of its beauty. She is forever grateful for all the creative people who have crossed her path and inspired her journey.
