I have extra Jacquard Marbling Color in the bottles, can I use it to paint on a silk scarf? If so do I need to add anything to it or thin it? Do I need to prepare the silk fabric? I have never painted on silk. Do I set it the same as the marbling fabric?
Thank you for any help. I will be doing this with 7th and 8th grade students.
Thanks for writing in. Yes, you can use the Marbling Color to paint on fabric. It will have a bit of a hand to it as it is a fairly thick medium for silk, but you can thin it - up to 25% with water to lighten the hand. Simply heat set as you would normally with the Marbling Color.
Annette, thank you for the quick response. Do I need to pretreat the fabric with mordant (alum-water) before it is painted on or is that just for the marbling process?
