pearl ex and lampworked beads
  • I make lampworked beads. There is a fine powdered pigment that is called pixie dust that can be sprinkled on beads after they have been shaped. They are still hot when it is applied and the bead is lightly re-entered into the flame to melt the dust on. It gives a shimmery look to the beads. I am wondering if I can use pearl ex pigments in the same manor. (Yes the area of work is well ventilated). Does anyone have any experience with this or know if it is safe to use or if it even works on hot glass?????? Thanks
  • Hi JJJ,

Pearl Ex Pigments should work basically the same way. They can be fired in a kiln up to 600 degrees, so you should be able to sprinkle it on your beads and pass them through the torch flame. Do a test first---ALWAYS TEST!--just to make sure you get the results you want.

When you get something you like, post a picture on the forum---it would be great to see your work!
