Ginger recipe
  • Hi

I use Jacquard acid dyes to dye materials, including chicken capes, for fly tying. I am after a recipe (mix) to achieve medium ginger (as in the golden light brown colour).

The link below shows a natural cape that is barred light and dark ginger:

Any ideas? (Assume the base colour is white)

    Thanks in advance

  • Color mixing is very difficult because color is subjective and every fiber takes dye differently. In addition, concentration, pH, temperature, time in the dyebath, etc. all affect one's results.

Its going to take a whole lot of experimenting, but you might want to start with some of the brownish oranges such as Golden Yellow or Burnt Orange or even Aztec Gold or Chestnut.
