Cleaning Metal Tips
  • I've been having a lot of frustration with the metal tips becoming easily clogged while using the waterbased black resist. I soak them in hot soapy water and stick pins through them but it doesn't seem to help that much. Often in a classroom setting we have a handful of them getting clogged and once and it if very disruptive to the teaching process. Does anyone have any good practices for keeping the metal tips clean?
  • Hi
Acetone dissolves acrylic. If you have some try soaking the nibs in a jar with acetone or old fashion nail polish remover. Then use the pin technique. Over time the resist which is an acrylic builds up in small quantities on the inside of the nib. You also have to watch out for the resist thickening after a while if you leave it in the applicator bottles as that can also cause blockages. Top the resist off so that there is virtually no air in the bottle to help to prevent thickening.
