• When dyeing silk, can you use the Pearl Ex with any dye and will it set properly without coming out?
  • Pearl Ex is not a dye, but instead small particles of pigments. If you don't mix it with a binder of some sort, such as a colorless fabric paint extender, it will wash out. Silk dyes will not serve to fix Pearl Ex in place. Acrylic-based silk paints in most cases will, but their colors will probably also cover up the intended effect.

What you want to do is dye your silk, wash it out, let it dry. Then mix your Pearl Ex with Neopaque Colorless Extender and paint it on. Let it dry overnight, then heat-set the Colorless Extender by ironing with a hot iron.
