silk wet after steaming
  • I just finished steaming silk that had been painted with the green label dyes. When I opened the whole thing up, my paper-wrapped pieces were damp and some of the color had bled on the paper. The pieces still look fine but my question is: Do I have to steam these pieces again to set the color or is the color now set even though the fabric got damp? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  • How long did you steam the pieces?
  • About 1.5 to 2 hours. What do you think?
  • So, sounds like you've done everything just right. Your fabric will be (and should be) a bit damp when you take it out of the steam chamber. A little bleeding onto the paper is normal. You steamed for plenty of time. Next step - let the piece dry completely and then rinse.
