Mother of Pearl
  • Is it possible to use Jacquard Acid dyes to dye mother of pearl? I'd prefer to use these dyes because the Wood n' Reed dyes do not have a hot pink color available.

If you have any suggestions or know about any books that cover this subject I would appreciate your help. Thanks.
  • Hi,

Yes you can dye MOP using Acid Dyes. That is actually a very effective dye to use. Heat the acid dye in a small amount of water and vinegar for concentrated colors on the stove. Don't use aluminum as that may color with the dyes as well. Place the MOP into the dye but don't pour the dye on to the MOP as that may stain it.

You may also wish to try our Pinata Color as well.

  • Thank you for the info. I'll try both the acid dyes and the Pinata colors. Are the Pinata colors permanent?
  • Hi,

The Pinata Color should be pretty permanent on the MOP. Do a test first.
