Using acid dyes for cotton, polyester
  • I have a lot of jars of acid dyes from when I used to dye wool. Now, I want to dye cotton and poly fabrics. Is there any way at all that I could add something to the acid dyes... some way.... some how... hopefully... by chance? LOL
  • Acid dyes on Cotton are going to look really pale. It is much better to use procion MX, which is a cotton dye on protein fibers than it is to use acid dyes on Cotton fiber. I know it's hard when you have all this dye left over but getting the right dye for the right fabric is really the most important part of dyeing.

It will work, but it isn't going to look very good or give you very rich color.
  • I forgot to add that Acid dyes do not work on polyester, but they work fantastic on nylon.

Synthetics other than nylon(lycra is nylon) you should use Idye Poly
  • Agreed with Jacquardmod Acid dyes do not work on polyester, but they work fantastic on nylon
