What do I need to do for dying really small pieces of silk organza with green label acid dyes?
  • Somehow, I didn't anticipate having to stand and stir several pots on the stove to dye my 1/4 yd bits of silk organza. In my town, I can't buy the fabric or I would have.
I normally (with cotton) use mason jars, and just let things sit, or ice dye on the back porch. But I want transparent.
Are there any other processes that don't require a stove?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Hi Red,

If you are using Green Label it is pretty easy!
Simply paint the dye onto the silk (or you could dip the piece), allow to dry for 24 to 48 hours and then use the Permanent Dye Set Concentrate to fix. (http://jacquardproducts.com/permanent-dyeset-concentrate.html)

    hope this helps,

  • That sounds a whole lot more like what I would prefer. I have been dyeing everything except silk for years, but..... it is that transparent thing I want in art quilting, Thanks.
