Neopaque newbie questions
  • Can you please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong?

I used Neopaque white to stencil a leaf-green 100% cotton T-shirt -- and by the time I got it to cover the green color, I had applied a lot of paint. It has dried stiff to the touch, unlike the Textile Traditions paints I've used, and I am wondering if it is going to crack or peel when I wash and dry the shirt.

I was applying the paint with a very cheap sponge brush, dabbing it on in light layers. Is there some trick to applying it? I bet I was doing it wrong.

    thanks for any help.
  • Hi Elizabeth,

Sponge brushes are just fine for applying paint, so no worries there. My main question is-Did the layers dry between coats? If they did, then you may have a problem with cracking and peeling. Our paints stick the best when they are applied wet on wet.

Have you heat set this yet? Make sure you set the paint very well---I think it may help with the stiffness. My experience with these paints is that they do soften up after washing---with the understanding that they must be heat set very well first.
Let me know how things turn out.
