dying acrylic "fur" jacket
  • I'm thinking of tie dying this jacket (particularly around the collar and cuffs that have gone a little grey).

    What is the best method?
  • The only type of dye that we offer that is appropriate for dyeing acrylic is our newly relaunched line of basic dyes found inside the contractor store on our website. However, these dyes are only offered in 1lb or larger sizes, so it is way more than you need for a single jacket. In addition, these dyes are for immersion dyeing-not for a direct application tie dye method. You could bind your garment and simmer it on the stove for a 1 color tie dye look.

There is a dye company named Aljo that packages basic dyes in consumer sizes since you're only looking to dye a single acrylic jacket.

Lastly, you'll want to keep in mind that dyes are transparent. This means that the original pink color (or grey where it has faded) will affect the dye color that you use.

    Good luck!
