How do you pre-wash silk?
  • I just got twelve yards of 10mm Habotai silk. The sheet that came with the silk recommends pre-washing it. What is the best way to do this? I assume it is to be hand washed. What kind of detergent should be used, if any? How much? Can it go in the dryer on air fluff, or does it have to be hung up to dry? Thanks to anyone who can please provide assistance. Also, if it helps to know, I do plan to dye the silk after I pre-wash it.
  • Hi, You can prewash the silk either by hand or on a gentle cycle in the machine. Woolite or synthrapol will work. You can also hang the silk up to dry or you can tumble dry on cool setting. Please be aware that the silk may shrink a little. Celia
