Dyeing Linen Without Shrinkage
  • Hi Everyone

I've got a couple of pairs of white linen pants that I would like to dye (babies and white pants don't mix!). I was hoping to be able to use idye in the ecru colour, but obviously I can't use hot water as the pants will shrink.

I was aiming for a "natural" (ecru/beige/light brown) colour, and the pants are 55% linen and 45% viscose. Seeing as I'm not wanting a really vibrant colour, I was wondering if anyone knows whether it would be worth trying idye or am I just wasting my time?

If I need to use procion mx, does anyone have any suggestions as to what colours I need to use please?

    Thanks!
  • Ooops my post above should have read "I was wondering if anyone knows whether it would be worth trying idye with cool water or am I just wasting my time?
  • Wasting your time. Use Procion MX dye, because, unlike iDye, it works in cool water, and it lasts better than iDye anyway.

Jacquard does sell an "ecru" Procion MX color mix.
