Silk type for beading
  • I have a silk (rayon lined) evening gown that I would like to recreate in a different color. The silk is a bit gauze-like. The various beads are stitched directly to the silk (not the rayon lining). I am unsure what type of silk this is. Could this be silk gauze ? The dress weighs 6 pounds, of which I am guessing that 5 pounds of this are the glass beads (rocailles and #2 bugles). I noticed that there are different mm ratings for silk gauze. Which is better for this use / thanks, Ray
  • Hi, It could also be Chiffon or Georgette. Difficult to say without seeing it. 8mm or higher should be sufficient weight to bead I would think. Celia
