Fabric crayons then disperse dye?
  • I'd quite like to make a starry playcloth for my son, so yellow stars on a dark blue background. I've dyed plain colour playcloths already and they turned out really well, so I'm wondering if I could iron on the stars fabric crayons first and then dunk the whole thing in blue dye?

Thanks in advance for your help :)
  • I think I would try it in the reverse order. We have been fining more and more that the disperse dyes(poly dyes) attach to more things than are obvious. It can be hard to tell if it would dye the crayon. We know for sure that the disperse dyes will color buttons and even acrylic paints and screen inks. It actually dyes the acrylic polymer. I would dye the cloth first and then apply the stars.
