• Can I dye a darker color a lighter shade? I dyed a white nylon - into navy blue, left it in the dye bath too long. It turned out black! What can I do to change to color to anything but black? Thanks
  • Since dye is transparent, you cannot use it to lighten another color. The dark color will just show through.

What you can do is use a dye-removing chemical. (See my page on What chemicals can be used to remove dye?.) Don't use household chlorine bleach on nylon, because the hypochlorite in it will destroy nylon. Use a gentler chemical dye remover, such as Rit Color Remover (sodium dithionite) or Jacquard Color Remover (thiourea dioxide), in hot water.
