Painting in layers with Dorlands Wax medium
  • Hi all - I've just started using Dorlands Wax medium and really like the consistency of it. I want to use it with oil paints and use a lot of layers in my work. I assume I have to wait for each layer to completely dry before I can add another on top of it, my concern is if I heavily dilute the upper layers with turpentine will it affect the lower layers?.
    Thanks for any assistance.

  • Hi,
The Dorland wax really accelerates the drying process of oils but it will ultimately be vulnerable to being re-dissolved with turpentine even when dry. Do a test first to see what level of turpentine dilution is tolerated by the base layer before it turns into a solution again.
