There's not enough sunlight in NW Ohio to adequately develop Solar Fast this time of year so I'd like to an artificial light source. Ye Gads! I'm so confused...lol! I've read the FAQs and suggestions on the product web site but can you tell me exactly which type of light bulb & wattage to purchase? I know SF develops with UV rays from the sun but which is needed, UVA or UVB rays? I've looked at black light bulbs that other users say don't really emit "black light", black light blue bulbs, reptile bulbs, mercury vapor and metal halide bulbs, cheaply priced bulbs and expensive ones. I'd appreciate it if someone who's had success with SF using artificial light would point me in the right direction. Thanks!
The first site shows an assortment of the smaller lights with assorted wattages - the higher the watt count the shorter the exposure time. We have an 18w - exposure ranges from 10 to 20 minutes depending on the color. You are pretty limited with these in terms of size. The second link is the exact light we use for 8 x 11" pieces - you could go a bit larger, but you want to make sure the image is under the light. With this light we expose for 10 to 12 minutes - depending on the color.
