Shibori on Silk - best dyes?
  • I've just started doing shibori on silk (arashi), but am not clear about dyes. I used Jacquard Acid Dyes for the base color but not sure what dyes to use for the overdyes. I'd like to use more than one color so I don't think I should dip the pole into a dye bath, right?

For the overdyes, I think I can use Jacquard green labels, but then I would have to dyeset or steam, right?

What about using Acid Dyes for the overdyes? How do I use them?
  • Hi,
You can use Acid Dyes as a paint (this can be used for drizzling dye over the fabric as well). However you still need to steam the item. Green Label is also Ok for this but yes you would need to steam the item with that dye as well. Procion MX dyes can be used as a cold water dye for painting but the effects vary on silk and the most vibrant results are achieved by steaming.
