Dyeing a swim suit
  • Hello,

I have a brand new white eyelet swim suit that I want to dye because it looks like a bra and panty. It is 95% nylon/polyamide, 5% elastane.

I have read an acid dye would work best. However, I am worried about the elastane holding up in the hot water process and also wearing it in salt water and pool water. Will the color hold up?

    Thanks!
  • Dear Mimi,

You are right to be concerned about the heat affecting the elastane.
You might want to consider using Dye-Na-Flow. This is a very light bodied paint. You would brush the paint onto the suit, a foam brush would probably work best. Dye-Na-Flow does require setting and in most cases one would heat set with an iron, however, I would recommend that you use AirFix which is an additive for the paint and allows the paint to air cure/fix over 72 hours.

    hope this helps
